PERSONAL APPEARANCE - The PLNU community affirms that the appearance of students should be consistent with an environment of vital Christianity. Simplicity and modesty are two values especially relevant to our campus situation. Certainly, for any dress policy to be effective, common sense and personal discretion by the members of the community are essential.
The following guidelines are helpful:
The following guidelines are helpful:
- Bodily cleanliness and neatness of dress are essential on the part of everyone.
- Shoes or footwear must be worn in any building, including the visitation lounges of residence halls.
- Clothing should be appropriate to the occasion and in good taste, reflecting the atmosphere of vital Christianity, which is one of the basic principles of Point Loma Nazarene University. Personal appearance should not disrupt the mood or atmosphere of the activity being attended. Clothing with unwholesome advertising should be avoided.
- Clothing should be gender appropriate.
- The University employee who is designated as the official in charge of a specific building or facility may set stricter guidelines for appropriate clothing. This includes faculty in the classrooms, residence directors in the residence halls (especially during Open House hours), the Athletic Director in all athletic facilities, and the Chaplain for Chapel.
This is the "Dress Code" that Point Loma Nazarene University has for their students. Some may think it silly, or demeaning to have a dress code for college aged people, but it looks like we are giving them a reason to keep in around. These guidelines seem extremely reasonable, and even desirable as ethics that I would want to live my life by. I want to be a modest woman who has personal discretion, someone who chooses appropriate clothing that doesn't distract from the learning atmosphere.
I was thinking the other day about how the way we choose to dress ourselves really does effect the time we spend in the classroom. Not only are some outfits inappropriate for academics, they are also distracting to many. There is a difference between what we can wear at the beach, and what we should wear in the classroom; a place where we are preparing for life, jobs, and professional situations. Can you imagine if the professors that were teaching your courses came to class wearing distracting, or even inappropriate outfits? Learning would be such a challenge that day, you would be too busy wondering what in the world that teacher does in their free time...
Its never too late to start clothing yourself in a way that is extremely fashionable, and beautifully modest at the same time. Lets strive to be the women of Point Loma who don't need to be told how to dress, we just already do it flawlessly ;)
These are just a few wonderful phrases of encouragement to help everyone remember the type of women God wants us to be :)
Find your purpose in this life, the way you can use the amazing gifts that God gave you, and glorify His name.
Ladies with class can also have brains, and attitude!
Just because you aren't giving into the way everyone else is dressing doesn't mean you can't have a whole lot of SPARKLE
Do the Fathers work everyday.
